Map the working site before selecting equipment
Begin with the entrances, loading points, storage areas and offices included in the project. Explain where vehicles move, when deliveries arrive and which areas are occupied outside normal hours. The site may look very different when stock is at its highest level or several deliveries arrive together.
Share planned changes to racking, partitions or access routes. These can affect camera views, detection coverage and installation positions. A useful brief describes the warehouse in operation rather than relying only on an empty-floor plan or a camera count carried over from another building.
CCTV around loading and stock areas
Identify what each proposed view needs to show. An overview of a loading area has a different purpose from a closer view at an entrance. Parked vehicles, open doors and stacked goods can obstruct a camera, so discuss the conditions that occur during normal use.

Intruder alarms outside operating hours
Explain which areas need protection when the warehouse closes and whether offices or loading areas have different hours. Staff, drivers or contractors may arrive early, and the alarm procedure needs to reflect who can legitimately access the premises at those times.

Control access without obstructing operations
Consider which doors should be available to staff, visitors and drivers, and which areas require restricted access. An entrance used for deliveries may need different arrangements from an internal office door. Tell us how visitors are received and who is responsible for admitting them.

Installation access and coordination
Warehouse equipment positions can be difficult to reach during normal operations. Identify any restrictions around vehicle movements, stock handling and occupied work areas. Discuss who will coordinate access and the times when installation activity can take place without conflicting with the site’s operations.
If the premises are leased, confirm who can authorise equipment mounting and cable routes. Where other contractors are involved, identify their responsibilities and programme. Any required connections to other systems should be specified and coordinated rather than assumed from the presence of existing equipment.
Review recording and user responsibilities
Agree who will administer the installed systems and who needs everyday access. Recording capacity and retrieval requirements should be discussed against the selected CCTV equipment and settings. Ask how authorised staff will locate an event and retrieve the relevant footage at handover.
For alarms, the nominated people need to understand setting procedures and agreed notification arrangements. Keep equipment and service information accessible to whoever manages the premises. A change in staff responsibilities should not leave uncertainty about who can operate or administer the security systems.
