Commercial intruder alarms in London

A business intruder alarm should reflect the way your premises are occupied, opened and closed. We help commercial customers across North, East and Central London discuss detection coverage, operation and any monitoring requirements before installation is agreed.

Identify what needs protection

Start with the layout and use of the premises. Entrances, stock areas and rooms containing equipment may need different consideration. Tell us when each area is occupied and whether any staff remain after the rest of the business has closed. These details help establish a useful brief for the proposed system.

Also explain any planned changes to partitions, access routes or working hours. An alarm design should be considered against the intended operation of the business. If an existing alarm is being replaced, describe the problems you are trying to resolve rather than simply requesting the same equipment again.

Make opening and closing straightforward

The people responsible for setting the alarm need to understand the procedure. Discuss who opens first, who closes last and whether contractors or cleaners attend outside normal hours. Where separate areas are used at different times, that requirement should be raised before the quotation is prepared.

Ask how users are added and removed and who will administer those changes. A practical handover should explain normal operation and the action to take if the system does not set as expected. The aim is an agreed arrangement that staff can follow, with responsibilities established rather than left unclear after installation.

Discuss insurer requirements early

If your insurer has provided alarm conditions, share the wording at the beginning of the enquiry. This gives the requirements a place in the proposal and avoids relying on assumptions about what an insurer will accept. Approval scope, equipment and any response arrangements should be considered against the actual instruction.

Our accreditations page explains questions to ask about certification and monitored systems. Request the current certificate and scope relevant to the work. Do not assume that the presence of a logo means every service or every possible installation arrangement is covered by the same approval.

Monitoring and notification arrangements

An app notification and an agreed monitoring service are different arrangements. Explain who should receive alerts and whether an Alarm Receiving Centre service is required. Any monitoring provision and associated response conditions need to be specified, rather than inferred from the alarm being connected to a network.

For eligible ECHO-connected monitored systems, response arrangements depend on the agreed service and applicable conditions. Police attendance is not an unconditional outcome of every activation. We can discuss your requirements at the quotation stage so that the proposal distinguishes the installation from any separate monitoring agreement.

Assess existing equipment and related systems

If the premises already have an alarm, share the make and model where known. Whether devices or cabling can be retained depends on their condition, compatibility and the new requirements. We can discuss the practical options without assuming that a complete replacement or a simple addition is always appropriate.

CCTV and access control have separate roles. Our commercial CCTV service considers useful views and recordings, while access control addresses entry permissions. Where integration is requested, the proposed equipment needs to support it and the intended interaction should be clearly described.

Agree the scope before installation

Provide your postcode, premises type, operating hours and a description of the work you need. We determine whether a quotation can be prepared over the phone or whether a free site survey is required. If several people manage the building, identify who can approve the work and provide access.

After the requirements are established, we provide a tailored quotation. Once you are happy and agree to proceed, installation can be arranged. Discuss areas that need to remain accessible, other contractors on site and the person responsible for handover. See our intruder alarm overview or contact the team to begin.

Review the proposal as a working arrangement

Before accepting, check which areas are covered, which user controls are included and what the agreed alert arrangements mean in practice. Ask which items rely on existing equipment or services. Keep the quotation and relevant system information available to the person responsible for day-to-day operation. Our business security page can help frame the wider discussion if you are coordinating several improvements at once.

Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

Can different parts of our premises be set separately?

Tell us how different areas are occupied. Separate setting arrangements depend on the system and must be considered in the proposed design.

Does the installation include monitoring?

Only where it is specified and agreed. Ask what notifications, monitoring and response arrangements are included and whether a separate service agreement applies.

Can you review an existing business alarm?

Yes. Provide the equipment details where possible and explain what you want to change. Condition and compatibility determine which parts may be retained.
